International Wooden Sculpture Festival “Legends of the North”
The V International Wooden Sculpture Festival “Legends of the North” starts on September 01, 2012 in the town of Labytnangi. This time the theme will be “Legendary Arctic”.
The Festival is supposed to gather the sculptors from Russia and abroad. As far as the Festival’s themes usually have northern color we invite artists from the northern regions.
All participants of the Festival will be awarded with the diplomas stating they took part in the V International Wooden Sculpture Festival “Legends of the North”.
Winners will be determined by the jury consisting of the prominent artists and honored cultural workers of the Yamal-Nenets autonomous district and will be awarded by following grants:
- The first place – 40 000 rubles;
- The second place – 35 000 rubles;
- The third place – 30 000 rubles.
Organizers provide Festival participants with accommodation and meals in Salekhard and cover the following expenses:
- flight Moscow - Salekhard – Moscow (econom);
- accommodation in Moscow (within 3 700 rubles);
The prospective candidates need to submit a personal photo, an application form, sculpture sketches with explanation of the idea of the work that should be based on Arctic history.

The Festival is organized by the Department for Culture of Yamal-Nenets autonomous district, Department for International and External Economic Relations of Yamal-Nenets autonomous district and The Regional Craft Center. The Festival is held every two years. It is aimed at promoting monumental art and at stimulating cultural exchange between the countries participating in the Festival.
